Creating a vision for your ideal future
Jan 27, 2024
We were challenged to create a vision board, and to create it the old fashioned way using poster board and magazines.
The students rolled their eyes at the assignment.
I decided to complete the challenge. After all, the instructor had a reward for anyone who completed the project on time and he was well respected for building multiple companies and achieving big things.
I carved out a few hours on a dreary Friday evening, pulled out the poster board from the Dollar Tree, dug through my closet for those magazines that had been collecting dust and began the process.
This is when the learning began and I discovered something new about myself.
And this wasn’t a junior high assignment.
It was real life, and real learning, at age 46.
It was a new way at looking at life.
What the instructor said was true.
Creating a vision gives you clarity to create your ideal life.
My learning was even more profound.
As I began to build the vision board, the colors, patterns, and photos of my ideal life began to come together. But they weren’t like anything I had seen before. The colors were different. The places were bright and bold. The scenes were refined. Even the quotes were not what they had been before.
Here are two learnings that will help you navigate your life and create your vision for the future.
First, you are not who you were.
You are not who you were. This is one of the most powerful realizations that you can have as someone who wants to create your best life. You are not the same person who started on this journey. You have grown, learned, and changed. You have faced challenges and overcome obstacles. You have had victories and setbacks. But each one of these experiences has shaped you and made you into the person you are today. You are not who you were, and that is a good thing. It's a sign of growth and evolution. It's a testament to your resilience and your willingness to adapt.
You are not who you were, and that means you have the power to become who you want to be.
You have the ability to shape your future and determine your destiny. You are not bound by past mistakes or failures. Instead, you are defined by your capacity for change and your potential for growth. Remember this when you feel lost or overwhelmed. Remember this when you face challenges or obstacles. You are not who you were, and that means you can become anything you want to be. This is your journey, and you have the power to shape its course.
Second, you have a lot of life left to live.
Creating a vision for your life is more than just setting goals or deciding on a destination. It is about understanding what truly matters to you, what you want to achieve, and who you want to be. When you have a clear vision, it not only gives you a direction to move in but also serves as a motivation to keep going even when the journey gets tough. It gives you the courage to face challenges, to learn from failures, and most importantly, to keep evolving. Remember, you have a lot of life left to live, and this vision is your roadmap to navigate that life.
A vision is a tool that can provide clarity and focus in the midst of life's uncertainties. As a person who wants to create impact and influence, not only for those you serve but also for your family and future, this clarity is essential to keep moving forward, to keep evolving, and to keep reaching for your dreams.
You have the power to shape your destiny and transform your dreams into reality. So, create a vision for your life, embrace the journey, and remember that you are not bound by your past or your current circumstances. You have a lot of life left to live, and you have the potential to become anything you want to be.
Create a vision for your life. It may be an old fashioned rendering, writings, or a digital display.
Allow that vision to begin to shape your life and your business, a bright future that is yours to write.
